The Food Pantries for the Capital District
CANstruction is an annual exhibit and design competition that connects talented architects, engineers, contractors, and students to imagine and create colossal structures built completely out of canned food items. The structures are on display on the fourth floor of the New York State Museum for two weeks, raising awareness of food insecurity in our region while highlighting the local talent of design firms. At the close of the exhibit, every can is donated to The Food Pantries for the Capital District to help feed families in the Capital Region.
In 2018 CANstruction brought in 108,111 pounds of food and a donation to The Food Pantries for the Capital District of $13,710! This brought the Capital Region CANstruction’s impact to over 661,000 pounds and nearly $178,163 since it’s inception.
The 11th Annual Capital Region CANstruction exhibit is going virtual for 2021! The talented teams from the AEC industry (Architecture/Engineering/Construction) that have participated in Capital Region CANstruction’s 10 year history, will showcase their favorite CANstructures from years past. These awesome creations will be celebrated once again through videos created by the teams. The videos will be posted on our Facebook page on March 2, 2021 so make sure you like our page! Teams will also fundraise and host food drives to benefit The Food Pantries For The Capital District. Visit our About CANstruction page to learn more.
